Assessment is the way in which a student’s knowledge, understanding, and skills are measured and evaluated. BML College UK is committed to providing students with assessment that tracks, measures, assures quality; is fair, consistent, unbiased, transparent, valid, reliable and accessible to all students. Assessment is to be robust and substantial to provide a fair gauge of student ability and achievement to support progress.

Our objectives are;

  • To follow the guidelines agreed by the awarding body to recognise prior learning.
  • To provide a system of assessment which is easily interpreted and understood by students and assessors.
  • To promote learning and achievement by establishing a system of recording assessment and feedback to allow student and assessor to monitor progress.
  • To provide a basis for induction and training of new assessors, moderators and internal quality assurers.
  • To establish rigorous standards of assessment which are consistent across equivalent programme levels in all curriculum areas.
  • To ensure the College complies with the assessment regulations and procedures of external awarding bodies.

BML College has in place a set of processes to ensure quality will be experienced consistently across all aspects of the College operations (Quality Assurance) and support the College in a cycle of continuous improvement and rising standards (Quality Improvement). At the heart of the cycle is self-assessment.

he aim is to achieve quality improvements that are learner focussed and that have a positive impact on the learner experience:

  • The quality of teaching, learning and assessment.
  • The College environment, including resources.
  • The College services and operations.

‘Malpractice’, which includes maladministration and non-compliance, is essentially any activity or practice, which deliberately contravenes regulations and compromises the integrity of the internal or external assessment process and/or the validity of certificates. It covers any deliberate actions, neglect, default or other practice that compromises, or could compromise: the assessment process, the integrity of a regulated qualification, the validity of a result or certificate and the reputation and credibility of the College.

This procedure is aimed at our learners, who are registered on programmes or courses, approved qualifications or units within or outside the UK and who are involved in suspected or alleged malpractice. It is also aimed at staff who are involved in suspected or alleged malpractice.

BML College UK, its subsidiaries and affiliated bodies are required to process relevant personal data regarding members of staff, applicants, parents, volunteers, pupils, alumni and families and shall take all reasonable steps to do so in accordance with this policy. The College does not buy or sell personal data.

Personal data covers both facts and opinions about an individual where that data identifies an individual. For example, it includes information necessary for employment such as the member of staff’s name and address and details for payment of salary or a pupils’ attendance record and exam results. Personal data may also include sensitive personal data as defined in the legislation. BML College UK will endeavour to ensure that all personal data is processed in compliance with this Policy and the Principles of current Data Protection Legislation, currently the Data Protection Act 1998 and (EU) General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679 (GDPR). The Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 is also relevant to parts of this policy.

The Equality Act 2010 became law on 1st October 2010. The Act introduces common definitions of discrimination.

The nine 'protected characteristics' under the Act are:

  • Age
  • Disability
  • Gender
  • Race
  • Gender reassignment (people undergoing gender reassignment or who are trans-gender)
  • Marriage and civil partnership
  • Pregnancy and maternity
  • Religion or belief
  • Sexual orientation (gay, lesbian, bisexual and heterosexual orientation)

Students and staff must be protected from discrimination and harassment on these grounds.The Act also protects against discrimination by association and perception, e.g. a partner or carer of someone with a protected characteristic should also be protected from discrimination and harassment.

Anyone who feels it appropriate to express dissatisfaction is offered the opportunity to raise issues openly with full assurance that they will be dealt with courteously, fairly, objectively and in a timely manner. To be certain of consideration, the complaint must be lodged within three months.

This policy applies to educational provision, leading to an award or part of an award for which credit is given and which is supported, delivered or assessed through methods which do not require the student to be physically present on the College campus.
